BomBooty is a body-lovin’, booty-shakin’ practice for babes who want to have fun, workout and express themselves. We provide experiences for you to feel more powerful, comfortable and free in your body.

We are a booty-positive community that strives to create courageous, fun and inviting containers for transformation through joyful movement, play and togetherness.

In many cultures around the world, dance is a form of communion and celebration. Unfortunately in many Western cultures, dancing is seen as just for those who have discipline and dedication to a specific dance form or for those throwing back tequila late night at the club. While there is nothing inherently wrong or bad about either of those environments, BomBooty promotes the medicine of movement, self-expression and celebration for everyBODY, anytime.

A Note From Our Founder

Hello Booty-Full,

My guess is that if you are reading this, there is something about the medicine of movement that is resonating with you.

I began teaching feminine style group dance fitness in 2013 because something deep inside of me was yearning to explore this type of movement. I was initially trained to be a Hot Buddhi Yoga teacher by Jen Liming from Big Island, HI.

I recall feeling super awkward and insecure about my body and how it moved when I was taking the teacher training. I remember thinking “who will even come to my class? I don’t look like a fitness instructor and I don’t move in sexy ways.”

Fortunately, the draw to sharing this practice was stronger than my doubts and I started teaching anyway. I later got trained in and started teaching Shakti Flow, a program developed by Jess Abner from O’ahu, HI. Both of these modalities are based in feminine movements combining dance, fitness and yoga moves with high energy pop and hip hop grooves.

Through showing up and teaching, I fell in love with the gifts movement gave me - the reminder that I am powerful and free to express, the release and healing of body shame, and the cultivation of an awesome community.

Prior to this part of my healing journey, I suffered greatly from feeling shitty in and about my body. I’ve always had a bit of a belly - which for many years felt like the most shameful thing. I remember vividly spending years waking up in the morning, looking at myself in the mirror, and depending on how I felt about my body, would let that dictate my mood for the day. Most days I felt shitty about my bod.

Moving my body was the gateway to reinventing my relationship with her. Spending time exploring movement, allowing expression and being in communion with my body gave access to deep reverence and respect for my 3D vessel.

During this time, I was also the front woman of an 8-piece funk band and taking the stage and being witnessed in my joy of singing. Because I was having a powerful transformation through movement and performing, I became fascinated with transformational work and in 2017 completed a year-long program with Accomplishment Coaching.

I also experienced a full life burn out that year and fully stepped away from teaching to focus on deep healing from that experience. When movement started calling me back, I sat with the question “If I were to develop my own program, what would it look like?”

I had already started experimenting with different elements in my classes, and when I sat with this inquiry, a few specific things came to the surface.

The first was my obsession with feminine based moves including swirls and flow as well as twerking and booty moves. The healing, fun and strength I was gaining from dancing in these ways was unparalleled to any other movement I have ever experienced and I wanted to center these moves in this practice.

The second was infusing community connection and the invitation to allow yourself to be witnessed inspired by the transformation I was experiencing through performing.

The third was a focus on self-inquiry and influenced by my work as a life coach - both being coached and coaching others. In class, we bring in elements of gratitude, intention setting and empowering mantras.

At the core of every BomBooty container are those facets: expressive movement, connection and mindfullness in order to create a deep healing and transformation portal for all.

Today I feel so much liberation from that inner mean girl. And let me tell you, if I had a magic wand, this is what I would wish for everyone. A world in which we all feel comfortable, powerful and free in our own skin is no doubt a more beautiful, loving and peaceful world.

So, my dear booty, I hope BomBooty is an impactful part of your journey to loving the body you were granted in this lifetime.

All my love and booty blessings to you,

Shawna Mox
